What is Seasonal Employment?
The Residence Permit for Seasonal Employment allows eligible third-country nationals to temporarily reside and work in Hungary for qualifying seasonal employment.
The employment must fall within a sector recognised under Hungarian law as seasonal work.
This residence category is intended for temporary seasonal employment and not for ordinary long-term employment in Hungary.

Temporary Nature of the Permit
Seasonal Employment Residence is specifically designed for temporary seasonal work. It should not be presented as permanent residence, general business immigration, long-term employment immigration, or citizenship by investment.
Applicants seeking longer-term professional employment should consider whether another Hungarian immigration pathway may be more appropriate.
Residence Validity & Extensions
Residence Duration
6 Months Within Any 12-Month Period
The Seasonal Employment Residence Permit can be issued for a period not exceeding six months within any twelve-month period.
Where several Seasonal Employment Residence Permits are issued, their combined validity must not exceed this six-month limit.
Extension
The residence permit may be extended where the applicable conditions continue to be satisfied, subject to the overall maximum duration rules.
Change of Employer
A holder may potentially change employer, but an appropriate extension or immigration procedure is required. The worker should not begin employment with a new employer without completing the applicable procedure.

Application Process
Application from Outside Hungary
Applicants who require a visa generally submit their residence application outside Hungary through the competent Hungarian Embassy or Consulate. The application generally also covers the entry visa.
Visa-Free Applicants
Eligible third-country nationals who are entitled to enter Hungary visa-free may, where conditions are satisfied, submit their first application while legally staying in Hungary.
Electronic Submission
Where permitted, applications and extensions can also be handled electronically through the Enter Hungary platform.
Biometrics
Applicants must provide required biometric information, including a facial photograph, fingerprints, and a signature specimen.
Restrictions & Limitations
Family Reunification
No Standard Family Rights
The Seasonal Employment Residence Permit does not provide a standard basis for Family Reunification. Family members generally cannot obtain residence based on the holder's permit.
Long-Term Residence
No National Residence Card
Seasonal Employment is a temporary category and not a direct long-term settlement pathway. Holders cannot obtain a National Residence Card on the basis of this residence category.
Change of Residence Purpose
Important restrictions apply concerning applications for other Hungarian residence titles. Applicants seeking longer-term residence should assess their strategy before choosing this pathway.
Working in Other EU Countries
The permit authorises qualifying seasonal work in Hungary only. It does not automatically provide employment rights in Austria, Germany, Slovakia, or other EU Member States.
